Raynor hails Red Devils' form
Crawley assistant manager Paul Raynor felt some of his side's football was "a joy to watch" as they defeated Southend 3-0.
Three second-half goals, including a two-minute brace from striker Matt Tubbs, secured a convincing victory and Raynor admitted unbeaten Town could not have settled better following their step up from the Blue Square Bet Premier.
He said: "We've moved up a level and against an established Football League side in Southend we were worthy winners. It could have been more than 3-0 and some of the attacking play in the second half was a joy to watch."
Crawley broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when defender Dean Howell scored with a shot-cum-cross, and Raynor admitted it was a fortunate way to go in front, adding: "It was meant to be a cross, but in the second half we really built on it against a well organised Southend side with quality players in their ranks."
Two-goal Tubbs believes Crawley, tipped by many to be contenders for back-to-back promotions, can make an impact this season, and said: "The early signs look good. Hopefully people will look at this result and be scared of us.
"This league is definitely a step up for us, but some of our new players have Football League pedigree and we certainly mean business."
